ive just made a homemade boom, but any sorta of finger movement results in handling nioses. Has anyone got any ideas to reduce this? Im thinking about putting that sponge stuff that goes round pipes on it, has anyone tried that?

You need to build a shock mount. This is done by attaching some type of tube or rings where you can make a crisscross of rubber bands, and suspend the mic on the rubberbands. This seperates it from and vibration on the pole. i need to learn how to post a picure on here.

I'd have thought that he best way to do it would quite simply to try any ideas that you have, because what wokrs fine for other people may not work too well for you.

yeah, the rubber band idea is probably the most important aspect to consider.

Yup, shock mounts are the way to go. Can be easily home-made with a plastic tube and some rubber bands.

Some mikes are more sensitive than others when "handled". You probably should compare mikes to see if their handling noise is similar or not when used in your particular set-up.
Also, I am a big fan of audio pads or attenuators.
You might find that your overall noise floor can be lowered by padding the mike with a -10, -15, -20 pad.
